Nadia Comaneci - (born on 12th November 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej or now Onesti, Romania), Romanian gymnast. First gymnast in history to earn a 10. a competition at the Olympics. Comaneci was spotted by Bela Karolyi who was later her Romanian gymnastics instructor when she was only six years old. The year 1969 was the first time she took part in the Romanian Junior Championships and placed 13th. She was awarded the championship in 1970. She won three golds in her debut competition, a junior pre-Olympic meet in 1972 for the communist bloc nations. The following year, 1973 as well as 1974 she won the junior champion in all-round competitions. In 1975, she won 4 gold and 1 silver medal in her debut senior competition. Lyudmila Torishcheva was a five-time European champion. She was the first woman to do a reverse double salo with the bar with a parallel surface after winning the American Cup, New York City 1976.
